When using Google scholar students and staff who work for an academic institution who are logged on to their institution's network will be automatically shown a link (to the right of the search return) to digital versions of articles held or subscribed to by the library or held on the library's database. These links could be to a pdf of a book, an e-book or an HTML version of a book. Obviously, it is not limited to books. It could be a link to a chapter of a book, a journal article, and so on. These features are not available to general users as most journals are published by companies that do not wish to give away their content for free.  Universities and similar institutions pay for access to published materials through Google Scholar.

Google Scholar is a useful tool for students or indeed teachers who have to do academic research.
