BBC iplayer catch up TV and radio

BBC iplayer

If you are in the UK the BBC iplayer is a great way to catch up with TV programmes you might have missed or want to watch again. It is an Internet service from the BBC. There are no tasks or scripts - just listening and or watching. TV and radio programmes and some films are available for  varying lengths after their TV transmission. So, if you want to catch up with an edition of Gardener's World you missed on the night it was shown live, this is the place to go. Personally, I look forward to missing repeats of Eastenders.

Why can't I access the iplayer from my country?
Free access to TV programmes is not available outside the UK for legal reasons (see below) but remember news and sports video highlights programmes often are. Radio programmes are also usually available outside the UK.

There must be  way I can access the the iplayer from my country!
Yes, there is. You can access the BBC iplayer anywhere in the world if you are willing to pay. All you need  is a mobile device and 50 Euros every year for the subscription fee.

Different web sites offer 'cheats' by suggesting using proxy servers, Firefox add ons, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and the like. Three things to remember here. Firstly, they are illegal, they will potentially infect your PC and they will probably not work very well.

Hope for the future!
For those of you willing to wait for a free service please read the text below from the BBC and pay special attention to part I have put in italics.

"Rights agreements mean that BBC iPlayer television programmes are only available to users to download or stream (Click to Play) in the UK. However, we are aware of demand for an international version."

Remember
"Most radio programmes are available outside the UK in addition to podcasts, although sporting and other programmes may be subject to rights agreements."
