Finding information about countries and international organizations (2)

The CIA World Factbook

'The World Factbook, produced for US policymakers and coordinated throughout the US Intelligence Community, marshals facts on every country, dependency, and geographic entity in the world. We share this information with the people of all nations in the belief that knowledge of the truth underpins the functioning of free societies.

The Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, energy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities.'

The text above is quoted from the home page of the CIA World Factbook. The most important thing to know is that this website has huge amounts of facts about every country in the world which might be of use when doing research or fact finding with your students. As well as country information there are world and regional maps, flags of the world, profiles of world leaders and much more. For example, did you know that the unemployment rate in Japan is 3.6% whereas it is 95% in Zimbabwe!
