Add comprehension questions to videos

Adding on-screen questions to videos

Subtitle-horse is a free online subtitle /captions editor tool that allows users to import videos (FLV/MP4 files) and add captions at the bottom of the video screen.  The questions can be set to fade in and fade out at the appropriate moments in the video.

For teachers its main use is in using the captions feature to add listening comprehension questions to videos. The videos can then be saved and played or added to a web space for students to use.  The software will not tell users if their answers are right or wrong.  The teacher has to play the video and and then check if the answers are right or wrong.

To get started with a web based video simply put in the URL of the video such as a YouTube video and click the submit button as below.

Your video will then appear in a new frame as is shown below. Next, the user has to get to grips with the editing interface. It is fairly simple to use. The insertion of questions is quite straightforward but setting the timings so that the questions appear and disappear at the right point in the video is time consuming.
