50 / 50 is a game to help learners recognise the different sounds made by words that have similar spellings.

Choose 50 / 50 from the list

Now, choose a minimal pair from the list. For example, /s/ and /z/

Next, a word appears with letters represented by the sound appearing in pink.

Two boxes also appear below the word.  The boxes are labelled /s/ and /z/

Click on the box that the word should go into. Is it an /s/ or a /z/ sound?

If you are right the word will drop into the box and you will hear the word pronounced. If you are wrong, you will hear a nasty noise and the word will move to the right box and will appear written in red
