This blog is for anyone interested in the possibilities that new technologies can offer (English) language teachers. I hope the web sites and tools on the Blog will be of use for teachers who want to help their learners. I have used them all at some time. The web sites and tools are easy to use for the most part and do not require the user to be a technical wizard. They are also FREE.

Dictationsonline
The dictations are online but have to be done with the aid of a pen and paper. The dictations are available with British English accents from the fonetiks.org people at five different levels. Students choose their dictation and hear it spoken four times. Firstly, the whole passage is read at normal speed for the learner to get the gist; secondly, each phrase is read slowly twice, with the punctuation marks indicated and finally the whole passage is read again for the learner to check their work. Once this has been done the correct written text is shown and the learner then checks for any mistakes.
Please note that the student writes the dictation using pen and paper and then checks agaianst the computer screen.
